My system is RH 8.0. I tried it on RH 7.2 also. The results were
same.

	Are you using SuSE9.0.

The port 537 (/etc/services) is reserved for nmsp (Networked
Media Streaming Protocol) in SuSE9.0 You will have to use a port greater
than 1024 on your qmaster.

You are right. If I set export SGE_QMASTER_PORT=1096
everything goes
through. Now the question is how do I make it look at
the port 537.
		Thanks for your help.

		Your output of /tmp/sge_messages

		07/22/2004 12:43:16|qmaster|grid4|C|can't create handle
for
		communication

		Looks like:

		Issue 1096:

During the installation procedure, if a non-root
user is selected as the "admin", the sge_qmaster
daemon dies with messages like this
		in /tmp/sge_messages:

		06/14/2004 16:40:39|qmaster|dvcgridm0|C|can't
		create handle for communication

But this should only be the case when running as a
non-root user. Your
		schedd
is running as root. Just for curiosity: can you
reinstall SGE with a
		hard coded
		port >= 1024. - Reuti
