[GE users] qresub / scheduling of long jobs revisited

Hi,

So qresub was suggested as a mechanism for breaking up long jobs that are
iterative, into a bunch of smaller jobs.

This was a proposed method for dealing with when a large number of jobs are
submitted with a long duration, and keep the job slots busy for a lengthy
time keeping the slots from becoming available for the other users' job
waiting in the queue.

Is there a suggested method for when the jobs are long in duration but not
iterative, i.e. don't repeat or you can't simply loop the job? Another
possible option would be to set a limit of number of jobs a user can have
running but this limit is inflexible upon the current usage of all slots.

Thanks for any feedback,
Patrice

What about:

qalter -v COUNT=$value $JOB_ID

before the qresub. The variable COUNT (or any you like) can be tested in
the script. - Reuti
