BTW, I qouted the wrong thing... I should have quoted this:

cc -shared -L/usr/local/lib -L/usr/local/SGE/SGE603/lib/lx24-x86 -ldrmaa
-lnsl -lm -lpthread howto1.o

If you remove "-shared", then a.out should execute.
