Rocks is already looking at using poll():

One more thing to change before we enable poll() as the default
-- we may want to disable the warning messages in
qmaster/sge_qmaster_main/main():MSG_QMASTER_FD_SETSIZE_LARGER_THAN_LIMIT_U

I also agree that we want to find out if qmaster can close() old
connections, or what difficults are there.
