Martin,

There are two places you can specify the number of slots.  The first is 
on a particular queue.  There you can specify a default for the queue 
and, if you wish, different values for different hosts in the queue.  
This, however, will not help if you have multiple queues which use the 
same host.

A better way is to specify in the execution host configuration the 
number of slots you want the grid engine to use on a particular host, 2 
for your 2 way hosts and 4 for your 4 way hosts..  This way, even if you 
have 4 different queues each allocating 4 slots on a particular 4 way 
box, the scheduler will never put more than 4 jobs on that host.

Here is the output from a qconf -se on one of my machines where you can 
see the complex_value for slots=1.
