Hi,

have a look in the install guide of the SGE 6.1 docs:

   http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1017.4

One thing I should mention because it's not explicitely mentioned in the
docs and a few users ran into the consequences: unlike with a patch
installation which allows to have pending and running (serial) jobs in the
system the SGE cluster needs to be drained from running and pending jobs
before the upgrade is started.

There are a few 'workaroundable' issues with the upgrade procedure from 6.0
to 6.1 which will be solved with 6.1u1. Upgrade from 5.3 to 6.1 is not
supported (and I doubt it will make a lot of sense to mimic the 5.3 host
queues with the introduction of the 6.0&6.1 cluster queue and hostgroup
concept).
