This works for my particular setup:-

########################################################################
# install SGE and only run in level 3
########################################################################
SGE_ROOT=/usr/local/sge
mkdir -p $SGE_ROOT

cat >> /etc/fstab <<.eof
# lines added by kickstart `date`
xxx.yyy.zzz.ac.uk:/usr/local/sge /usr/local/sge nfs defaults 0 0
# end of lines added by kickstart
.eof

portmap # so the mount will work straightaway
mount $SGE_ROOT
cd $SGE_ROOT

cat >> /etc/services <<.eof
# lines added by kickstart `date`
sge_qmaster 536/tcp #Sun grid engine
sge_execd 537/tcp #Sun grid engine
# end of lines added by kickstart
.eof

# set hostname because it's not yet set during kickstart install
. /etc/sysconfig/network
hostname $HOSTNAME

# temporarily register sgeadmin as a local user since NIS not working yet
groupadd -g 4344 sgeadmin
useradd sgeadmin -g 4344 -u 4344

./inst_sge -x -noremote -auto sge_basin.conf

# get rid of sgeadmin - groupdel not required as the userdel removes an empty group
userdel -r sgeadmin

# disable SGE in runlevel 5
chkconfig --levels 5 sgeexecd off
########################################################################

I hope it makes sense. These are tri-boot machines in a public cluster
which is sometimes given over to running SGE jobs when not required for
Windows or interactive Linux work. The file sge_basin.conf is pre-prepared
template file for commandline installation.

Let me know how you get on.
