Alex,

I did the same thing on my system, and it worked correctly.  Hmm...  Is 
the * maybe being interpreted by your shell?  If I do a qstat -u *, I 
see no jobs, because the shell resolves the * to the first file in my 
current directory.  Try qstat -u '*' or qstat -u \*.
