[GE users] how to enable raw (unbuffered) output in log files

this is not because of SGE but of the used NFS. You can try to lower  
the buffer size in the NFS server, but I fear this will drop its  
performance.

This shouldn't change the behavior.

The users can login to the node and tail it there, where it should be  
faster.
