[GE dev] sge_aliases search behaviour

Hello again,

I have just spent a fair bit of time getting
the NetBSD port of OpenMPI to play nicely
with our SGE Grid.

For reasons I won't to go into, certain
classes of user do not see their home
directories when running grid jobs. This is
not normally an issue.

However, it would appear that when an OpenMPI
job is run, the way that the SGE is started
up causes a search to be done for the
~/.sge_aliases file, resulting in this kind
of message

error: can't read path aliasing file "/u/staff/kevin/.sge_aliases": Permission denied

and the resultant failure of the submitted job.

What I've got to thinking is that:

a) this outcome might not necessarily be a
case for a job to abort in the first
   place

b) there might be a way to defeat the default
search locations for files that would
   usually control the aliasing process.

Has anyone in the dev community ever thought
along the same lines ?
