Ah, that explains it then. We are stuck for the time being on 5.3 kernel due to Lustre not yet supporting the 5.4 kernel (at least according to the support matrix: http://wiki.lustre.org/index.php/Lustre_Release_Information#Lustre_Support_Matrix)

That's correct. All my CentOS 5.4 machines provide I/O accounting data.

I'm still unclear as to what the units are used in the accounting file. The 
manual page says that the io field contains:

	The amount of data transferred in input/output operations.

Is that is filesystem blocks, bytes, KB, etc?
