Thanks -- I ended upgrading to 1.3.2, which solved the problem.
It may have been an inconsistent configuration.

Sorry, I didn't see that in it, and don't remember how the ompi_info SGE
output relates to OMPI version.

Yes, it's only relevant for 1.3.{1,2}.

You'll need to debug the problem by looking at log files, or whatever.
It's surely nothing to do with quad- v. dual-core.

[Not distinguishing the quoted material and the response in messages
