haha, yeah the managers always want the gas gauge interface :-)

I see your point re: the slots, we run into the same thing here.

I haven't done anything to try to tie Ganglia into SGE... 

The slot usage vs slots/time is a mess to try to unwind.  Here's why:

Our "basic cluster node" is a 4-CPU Opteron machine with 8GB RAM.
We have it set up as 4 slots (one slot/cpu w/ 2GB memory).
If a user requests more memory for their job (h_vmem=8GB), 
one "slot" will be used, but the others go unused (as all memory is 
consumed).

In this case, do you have unused slots? Yes. Could you have used them?
No.

You can get at this sort of data with the ARCO add-on, but making
management-friendly gas-gauge reports could take a lifetime.  :)
