[GE users] host group as hard resource

Yes, kind of - you can't do "-l @<hostgroup>" -- however,
you *can* do "-q *@@hostgroup".

See man qsub, which explains that the "-l" option only takes a
resource as an argument, and a hostgroup is not a resource. However,
the -q option takes a "wc_queue_list" as its argument, and
a "wc_queue_list" is constructed as one or more "wc_queue"s,
which are in turn constructed as "wc_cqueue | wc_qdomain | wc_qinstance"
(from man sge_types).

So, in the example above, the "*" selects all the queues on a
particular host (you could change that to a specific queue or
a subset of queues), and the "@" separates the queue name from the
hostname part of the description, and the "@hostgroup" selects
the specified "hostgroup" hostgroup.

If you preceed the "-q *@@hostgroup" options with "-soft", this will
make it a recommendation, but not binding. If you leave off the
"-soft" (or replace it with "-hard"), then the -q option is
binding and the job won't be dispatched until there are enough
resources in the specified hostgroup to satisfy the request.

Sorry, a bit long - make sense ?

      John
