[GE users] How important is checkpointing support?

Well, you can see a very preliminary version of a Fortran 95 checkpointing support module and an example program using it at:

It seems to work ok and provide reliable checkpoints but no doubt it'll improve in the future.

To test this:

* download: ckpt.f95, harm.f95

* g95 -o harm ckpt.f95 harm.f95

* ./harm

* quickly interrupt it with CTRL-C

* see the checkpoint files it created

* run it again and see it restarts

* see no checkpoints left after completion

The module can be easily extended to checkpoint the variables your program is using while doing all the "dirty work".

A good checkpoint should always be available and any checkpoint is verified before it's being used.
