On Solaris (i386, amd64) uname -p will always return i386. 

To confirm you could reboot and watch for a message that says 64-bit or 32-bit. Or do cat /var/adm/messages | grep 64-bit and  cat
/var/adm/messages | grep 32-bit to see when actually did you boot in 32/64-bit modes.

I believe everything is fine and I'm closing the bug as works for me. Feel free to re-open if I missed something.
