you the queue status and you aggregate the output to produce a report.

Of course, you could do something better than 'wc -l', since it
counts the header lines and therefore produces a wrong result,
but for a rough number it's ok.

For more sophisticated report generation you could use 'qstat -xml'
and use some xml tools to transform the result. You may want to
look at http://xml-qstat.org/ to get an impression.

If your scripts are for something other than report generation,
then I'd like to know what you want to achieve. Polling the
queue state is almost always the wrong way to do it :)
