if $SGE_ROOT is set, why can't inst_sge just cd to $SGE_ROOT at the beginning
of the script?

It's not like any of the other grid commands have to be run from $SGE_ROOT.

It seems silly for me to have to provide a wrapper script that does;

#!/bin/sh
if [! -s ./util/arch_variables -a -d "$SGE_ROOT" ] ; then
        cd $SGE_ROOT
fi
exec ./inst_sge ${1+"$@"}
# end of script

just to install/deinstall a system.
