Grid Engine should automatically monitor interactive jobs and terminate ones
that have been idle longer than a threshold time. While the user's shell may
have an automatic logout time specified, the shell's automatic logout is easily
circumvented by the user. Idle interactive jobs can consume job slots that
could otherwise be used for doing useful computation.

Any idea what could be the criterion for being idle?

No CPU consumption could hardly be the criterion because some interactive jobs
anyways consume almost no CPU e.g. think of a vi(1) session. Possibly new
interactive job support would allow IO monitoring as to detect idle interactive
jobs. Drawback of this approach however is that IO of qsh(1) jobs is not
streamed through shepherd.
